One afternoon, I asked my six year old daughter about her school day. Knowing she had a spelling test that she had prepared thoroughly for, I inquired specifically about the exam.
Her response broke my heart a little; not because of her words but the tone in which they were delivered.
All right again mummy, same old, same old.
My dumpling was no longer excited about her impressive feats. I swooped in with creativity and conviviality. Making a raucous, I presented her with a cute button accolade for her perfect spelling score, three weeks running.
She was over the moon and so was I.
I now press forward, making buttons to mark their achievements and to motivate them to satisfy goals they’ve set for themselves. Some are weird and some are super specific, but they get the job done!
